Parking

What do I need to use Parkster?
To use the Parkster app, you only need:
* A smartphone with an Android or iOS operating system
* An active internet connection (mobile data network or Wi-Fi)
You can download the app for free from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
When is parking subject to fees and how long am I allowed to park?
The times, rates, and maximum parking durations are set directly by the
respective parking operator (city or private).
You can find all the information transparently in the Parkster-App:
* Select your preferred parking zone in the app.
* Check the applicable paid hours, hourly rates, and maximum parking durations
right there.
Important: Always pay attention to the signage on-site. Signs for no stopping,
resident parking, or temporary regulations always take precedence over the
information in the app.
I am receiving charges/invoices for an old car or a rental car.
If you receive charges or invoices for a vehicle that you no longer drive (e.g.,
a sold car, a returned rental car, or a car-sharing vehicle), this license plate
is likely still registered in your Parkster account.
How can this happen?
When you add a license plate in the Parkster app and camera parking is
activated, the camera system at the parking lot or garage automatically
recognizes the plate. If you do not remove the license plate from the app after
returning the rental car or selling your car, the parking session of the
subsequent driver will still be attributed to your account.
What can you do now?
Manually end the parking session:
* Open the Parkster app.
* Tap "Parkscheine" at the bottom of the menu.
* Select the ongoing parking session.
* Tap "Parkvorgang beenden".
Remove the license plate:
* Open the app.
* Tap "Fahrzeuge".
* Tap the desired license plate.
* Tap "Löschen".
Contact support:
If you cannot manually end the parking session or if you have incurred costs due
to the recording of a foreign user, please contact our customer service. We will
gladly review the case for you.
Overpayment Protection (Parkster Complete)
What does overpayment protection mean?
Overpayment protection is an intelligent feature of Parkster Complete. It can
happen to anyone that they forget to end a parking Ticket on time. The
overpayment protection reminds you via a notification on your smartphone to end
your Ticket as soon as it detects that you are leaving the parking location with
your car.
How does overpayment protection work on iOS (iPhone)?
Functionality: When you start a parking session, a so-called geofence (a virtual
geographic area) is created around your location. As soon as the app detects
that you are leaving this area and moving in a vehicle, you will receive a
notification.
Using the notification: You can end your ongoing Ticket directly through the
notification. Depending on your iPhone model, you can either press firmly or
long-press the notification to see the "End" button. If you tap normally on the
notification, the Parkster app will open.
Required permissions: For the feature to work, the app needs access to your
location ("Always") and to "Motion & Fitness" (to detect if you are driving).
You will be prompted for these permissions during your first parking session
after activating Complete.
How do I enable "Motion & Fitness" on iOS?
* Open your iPhone's settings.
* Scroll down and select Parkster.
* Under Location, choose the "Always" option.
* Make sure the switch for Motion & Fitness is turned on.
How does overpayment protection work on Android?
Functionality: When starting a parking session, the app activates a sensor. As
soon as your smartphone detects that you are moving in a car, a notification
will appear reminding you to end your parking Ticket.
Required permissions: From Android 10 onwards, the app requires access to your
"Physical Activity" to recognize when you leave the parking space with your car.
This permission will be requested during your first parking session after
activation. For Android 9 or older, no special permission is required.
How do I enable "Physical Activity" on Android?
* Open your smartphone's settings.
* Go to Apps (or "Apps & Notifications").
* Select Parkster and tap on Permissions.
* Choose Physical Activity and tap Allow.
* How can I deactivate overpayment protection?
How do I use my guest card with Parkster?
How do I use my guest card with Parkster?
With many guest cards, discount codes, or regional passes (e.g.
Allgäu-Walser-Card, Daheimpass, Berchtesgaden Guest Card, Rothenburg Plus Card,
Tirol Regio Card, etc.), you can enjoy discounted or free parking via Parkster.
How do I link my card with the Parkster app?
Depending on the region or type of card, there are two ways to redeem the
discount:
Option A: Using the "Use Discount Code" field
* Select the desired parking zone in the app.
* Enter your card number in the "Use Discount Code" field.
* The discount will be credited to your account as long as the card is valid.
Option B: Using the "Special Rate" selection
* Open the app, tap on "Find," and select the parking space.
* Select the "Special Rate" option (or e.g., "With Rothenburg Plus Karte").
* Enter the expected parking duration and tap "Continue."
* Enter your card number (as well as your name and email address, if
applicable) and confirm the special rate.
I forgot to enter the discount code - what to do?
* For discount codes: You can still add the card number as long as the parking
process is ongoing. If the parking process has already been completed,
retroactive crediting is no longer possible.
* For special rates: The parking process must be initiated before starting with
the selected special rate and the entered card number. Retroactive
adjustments after starting are not possible.
My discount code or special rate isn't working - what could be the reason?
If the entry fails or the discount is not applied, please check the following
points:
* Restrictions to specific parking zones: Many guest cards are only valid in
selected parking areas of the respective municipality/city and not
universally.
* Usage restrictions per day / license plate: Some discounts are only valid
once per day or only for a single vehicle. If a free parking process is
started and then immediately canceled, the discount for that day may still be
considered used.
* Simultaneous use: A discount code generally cannot be used for two vehicles
or multiple parking processes at the same time.
* Blocked times: Some cards have blocked times, after which the parking process
will be charged at the regular rate.
* Unsupported guest card: Not every regional guest card is supported by
Parkster. Please ensure that the card is explicitly authorized for use with
the Parkster app.
Tip: If all entries are correct and the code is still not accepted, please
contact the issuer of your guest card directly (e.g., city marketing or local
tourist information).
Can I book a parking ticket afterwards via Parkster?
No, this is not possible. Since Parkster issues live tickets only, parking
sessions cannot be started or booked afterwards.
If you see a sign on-site stating that payment is possible within 24 hours, this
rule is provided directly by the parking operator (e.g., the city, municipality,
or a private operator) and does not apply to Parkster.
What can I do?
To avoid a potential parking fine, please contact the respective operator
directly as quickly as possible. You can find contact details for private
operators on the signage at the parking lot; for public spaces, the local city
or municipality is your point of contact.
My license plate was scanned, even though I am not on site at all.
In rare cases, it can happen that a camera system (ANPR) misreads another
license plate and incorrectly assigns it to your Parkster account.
How can this happen?
Camera systems operate with automatic image recognition. One possible reason for
a misreading could be the way the license plate is written. Due to dirt,
reflections, unfavorable lighting conditions, or varying character spacing
(e.g., "AB-C 123" instead of "ABC123"), the camera may misinterpret a sign.
What can you do now?
Manually end the parking process:
* If the parking process is still running in your app, please end it
immediately:
* Open the Parkster app.
* Tap "Parkscheine" at the bottom of the menu.
* Select the ongoing parking process.
* Tap "Parkvorgang beenden".
Contact support:
If you cannot manually end the parking process, please contact our customer
service. We will review the case for you.
Temporarily disable camera parking:
If the vehicle is currently not being moved or you do not wish to use camera
parking for the time being, we recommend turning off the camera activation in
the app:
* Open the Parkster app.
* Tap "More" -> "Vehicles" at the bottom right.
* Select your vehicle.
* Turn off the "camera parking" option.
Difference between Short-Term & Long-Term Tickets
Depending on the parking lot, Parkster offers you various types of parking
permits:
Short-term ticket
* You set your desired parking duration. You can end the parking process early
at any time or extend it within the maximum parking duration.
* After the set time expires, the parking process will automatically end.
* You only pay for the actual time parked.
Long-term ticket (e.g., daily, monthly, or 1-year ticket)
* The duration is set directly at the time of purchase (e.g., 1-day, 1-month,
or 1-year ticket).
* Long term tickets are valid for the booked period and cannot be changed,
extended, or ended early afterwards.
Here’s how to book a long-term parking:
1. Select your parking zone in the app.
2. Tap on "Long term ticket" under the zone selection.
3. Choose the desired parking permit and confirm the purchase.
Note: Long term tickets are not offered at every parking lot. If the option is
not displayed, only short term parking is possible at this location.

Problems with Cross Country Parking (Error Messages & Solutions)
In some cases, parking abroad is not possible for certain users. Please note
that there are specific zones and scenarios where cross-country parking is
generally not allowed:
* Not all camera-monitored parking areas (ANPR zones) abroad are supported.
* Payment for electric vehicle charging sessions is currently not supported
abroad.
* If the selected zone in the vacation country does not allow direct payment,
the parking process cannot be initiated.
For some credit and debit cards, cross-country parking is currently blocked or
declined for technical reasons. If your card is declined abroad, please first
try an alternative credit card or another direct payment method.
If that doesn't help or you have no other options, here are the two quickest
emergency solutions:
Option 1: Express Parking (Fastest solution without registration)
* Log out of your current Parkster account in the app.
* Completely close the app and reopen it.
* Select your vacation country (e.g., Sweden) and tap "Let's go!".
* Set up payment method: Tap "More" in the bottom right and then "Select
payment method".
* Add vehicle: Go to "Vehicles" at the bottom of the app and tap "Add new
vehicle".
Option 2: Create a separate foreign account (e.g., for Sweden)
* Log out of your German or Austrian Parkster account ("More" ➡️ "Log out").
* Select the vacation country as the new country (e.g., Sweden).
* Tap "Let's go!" ➡️ "More" ➡️ "Select payment method".
* Scroll all the way down, tap "Create Parkster account" and register.
⚠️ Important when registering abroad (e.g., Sweden):
* During registration, you will be asked for a Bank ID. Tap "I don't have a
Bank ID".
* Enter your name and address. Tap "Save". You will be redirected to our
payment service provider's page.
* Fill in your debit or credit card details. Currently, this payment method is
the only one offered for a registered account in Sweden.
💡 Important technical limitations for Option 2:
* Contact details: Each email address and phone number can only be registered
once in the Parkster system. Therefore, you must use a different email
address and phone number for the foreign account than for your home account.
* Language: You can easily change the app's language through your smartphone's
general system settings.
Parkster for people with a disability ID.
Whether you can park for free or at a reduced rate with a disability pass
depends on the respective city or municipality.
Waldshut-Tiengen
In the city of Waldshut-Tiengen, there is the option to park for free.
Important due to the new scan car monitoring:
Since scan cars automatically check vehicles via camera using the license plate,
a disability pass (blue, orange, or yellow) lying in the car cannot be
recognized.
Therefore, the following procedure applies:
* You need a Parkster account.
* Then, you must obtain permission for your license plate directly from the
city of Waldshut-Tiengen so that it can be registered in the system.
* After that, you need to check in the app whether you can book a free parking
Ticket in the selected zone. Please note that the booking must still be
actively done in the app.
Other Cities
We do not have information regarding the disability pass in other cities. Please
note that this is not automatically taken into account in the app.
To learn about the applicable regulations, please contact the respective parking
operator. This is usually the municipality or the city. If it is a private
parking operator, you will find a corresponding notice on the parking signage
on-site.
Can you park an electric vehicle for free for 3 hours?
Please note that this is not applied or recognized in the Parkster app!
In some cities, electric vehicles are allowed to park for free, but since these
special regulations vary greatly by location, please check the website of the
respective city in advance.
Example: The 3-Hour Regulation in Bavaria
In Bavaria, electric vehicles can park for free for the first three hours in
state and municipal parking spaces. To do this, simply place a parking disc
clearly visible behind your windshield. You do not need to start a parking
session via the app or a ticket machine for these first three hours. However, if
you plan to park for longer than three hours, you must purchase a regular
parking ticket for the additional time.
Where does this regulation not apply?
This regulation applies exclusively to public (state or municipal) parking
areas. Private parking operators typically do not offer such discounts.
How do I park via SMS?
Parking transactions can also be done via SMS with Parkster in some cities.
When parking via SMS - unlike with the Parkster app - a service fee of 60 cents
applies for each parking transaction.
Create Parkster Account
On www.parkster.com, by selecting the desired country, you can create an account
by clicking the Sign Up button. In the personal settings, the following must be
selected to activate SMS parking: "The parking transaction has been activated
via SMS/voice control."
Find Zone Code
You can find the correct zone code on the Parkster signage at the parking lot.
Start Parking Transaction
Send an SMS with the zone code and your license plate number to 33777.
Example: 12345 ABC123.
Receive Confirmation
Your SMS parking ticket is only valid once you have received a confirmation.
End Parking Transaction
Send an SMS with the word STOP to 33777. You will receive a confirmation via SMS
with the total parking duration and the incurred parking costs. Pay once a
month. All your parking transactions will be collected on a monthly Parkster
invoice.
Set Automatic Expiration Reminder
Shortly before the parking time expires, you will be reminded via SMS. If you
want to end the parking transaction at a specific time, send an SMS with the
zone code, license plate number, and number of hours for extension to 33777.
Available only at selected locations.
Example: 12345 MAB123 3
Start and Extend Long-Term Parking
Send the word DAY, WEEK, or MONTH along with the zone code and your license
plate number to 33777. A confirmation will follow via SMS.
Extend Long-Term Parking
Send an SMS with the word EXTEND to 33777. An extension is possible as often as
you like within the maximum parking duration. You will receive a confirmation
via SMS.
Set Up Subscription
With a subscription, your monthly parking ticket will be automatically renewed.
To do this, send the word SUBSCRIPTION to 33777.
Parking meter broken - what now?
If a parking meter on site is defective, please contact the respective parking
operator directly. In most cases, this is the city or municipality. If it is a
private parking area, you can find the name and contact details of the operator
on the signage at the location.
Parkster only sells digital Parktickets through the app and does not have access
to the physical parking meters. Unfortunately, we cannot assist you directly
with a malfunction of the meters.

How does the parking attendant know that I am using Parkster?
The parking enforcement officer searches for your license plate on their
handheld device. Once they find your license plate, they can also see your
electronic parking ticket.
A few cities/municipalities still require a parking badge with a reference to
digital parking.
* In the following cities, you need a parking sticker: Hagen, Hameln,
Heidenheim, Hennigsdorf, Kiel, Lübeck, Mönchengladbach, Uelzen, Graz (AT).
* Note in the app: If a parking sticker is required, this will be displayed in
the Parkster app. If you park without one, it may happen that the local
traffic enforcement does not know how you obtained your parking ticket and
issues you a fine.
Here’s how to display the sticker:
Here we offer you the parking sticker for printing. It is important that the
sticker is placed clearly visible behind the windshield.
No printer available?
In a pinch, the parking sticker can also be printed in black and white, or a
note with a clearly legible handwritten remark "I park with Parkster" can be
displayed.
How do I transfer a long-term parking permit to another vehicle registration number?
In some parking zones, you have the option to change the license plate on a
long-term parking ticket. Please note that this option is not available for
short-term parking tickets.
Please note: Not every parking operator allows a license plate change in their
parking zones (for example, a change is not possible in Smartparking zones). In
this case, when you attempt to change it, the message "A change of the license
plate is unfortunately not possible for this parking ticket" will be displayed.
If changing is allowed in your zone, you can easily do it through the app or
website. Please always ensure that the correct license plate is active on the
Ticket while your vehicle is parked (only one license plate can be registered at
a time).
Through the App
* Open the Parkster-App.
* Go to Tickets.
* Tap on the desired long-term parking ticket.
* Tap on Change Vehicle.
* Select the desired license plate or add a new one.
Through the Website
* Open the website and log in.
* Go to Parking Transactions / Receipts.
* Click on Change License Plate for the desired parking ticket.
* Select the desired license plate.
Important: On the website, the new license plate must already be registered in
advance. You can find out how to add a new license plate here.
What is a long-term parking permit subscription?
What is a long-term parking permit subscription?
A subscription allows you to automatically renew long-term parking permits
(e.g., a 1-day, 1-month, or 1-year ticket). This way, you don't have to manually
rebook your Ticket every month.
Please note: Subscriptions are not available in all parking zones, as this
depends on the respective parking operator.
Activate subscription

* Select your vehicle.
* Slide the "Automatically renew Ticket" slider to the right.
* Complete the purchase.

Via the Website
* Log in to https://www.parkster.com/de/en/.

* Select the subscription you want to end and cancel it.
Do I need a Parkster parking sticker in the windshield?
Some cities still require a parking sticker with a note about digital parking,
for example, in case the control devices are not functioning.
If a sticker is mandatory at your parking location, the Parkster-App will
display this directly before you start the parking process.
If you park in one of these cities without a sticker, it may happen that the
traffic monitoring does not recognize your digital Ticket and mistakenly issues
you a parking fine.
In these cities, you need a parking sticker:
* Germany: Hagen, Hameln, Heidenheim, Hennigsdorf, Kiel, Lübeck,
Mönchengladbach, Uelzen
* Austria: Graz
Here’s how to register the sticker:
1. Download the Parkster parking sticker here.
2. Print it out and place it clearly visible behind your windshield (or on the
inside of the window).
No printer available?
If necessary, you can also print the sticker in black and white or simply place
a clearly legible handwritten note saying "I park with Parkster" behind the
window.
How do I find a parking zone?
To find a parking zone for your parking process, you have several options in the
app:
* By GPS location: Turn on the location services on your smartphone and open
the Parkster app. Your current location and all Parkster parking spaces
nearby will be displayed on the map immediately.
* By search: You can also enter the desired location, postal code, or directly
the 6-digit zone number (e.g., "12345") in the search window.
Important: Pay attention to the correct zone code!
* Please ensure that the zone code on the parking sign at the location exactly
matches the zone code of the parking space selected in the app. Even if two
parking spaces are located right next to each other, they may be assigned to
different zones depending on the operator.
* When you select a parking zone directly on the map, the green highlighted
area shows you exactly which parking spaces belong to that zone.
(If you are searching for a zone in another city, first search for the city
name, zoom in on the map, and select the zone there.)
Note: Do you often park in the same zone? Simply save it as a favorite:
* Select the zone and tap on "Favorite".
* Enter a name (e.g., "Work") and confirm by tapping "Add to favorites".
Will I be notified by Parkster when the parking session expires?
Yes, if you have allowed push notifications for the Parkster app, you will be
notified 15 minutes before the expiration of the preset parking time.
IPHONE
To receive push notifications, the process may vary slightly depending on your
iPhone model. Generally, you can find the "Notifications" option in the
settings.
* Open Settings
* Scroll down until "Apps" is displayed
* Select Parkster App
* Allow "Notifications" (Lock screen, Banners, or Sounds)
If you cannot find this option, it may be because you do not have the latest iOS
version installed or the app has not been updated to the latest version.
ANDROID
To enable push notifications on Android, go to the device settings under
"Notifications" and select the desired app to turn notifications on or off.
* Open Settings
* Scroll down until "Notifications" is displayed
* Tap on "App Notifications"
* Select Parkster App
* Turn on the toggle switch
What is Camera Parking?
What is Camera Parking?
Camera Parking is an optional feature. By activating the camera recognition, you
agree that your license plate will be automatically captured by cameras at
certain parking spaces. This allows the parking process to start automatically
upon entry and end automatically upon exit - you no longer need to take a Ticket
or manually start it in the app.
Where can I use Camera Parking?
Camera Parking is not available in all parking zones. You can identify the
suitable parking spaces in the app by a camera icon and the text "This is a
parking space with automatic camera parking," as well as by the corresponding
signage at the entrances and exits of the parking area.
What are the requirements?
* You must have a registered Parkster account (Express Parking without
registration is not possible for Camera Parking).
* The "Camera Recognition" feature must be activated in the app for the desired
license plate.
⚠️ Important note for rental cars & vehicle changes: If you are using a rental
car, car-sharing vehicle, or a borrowed car, be sure to deactivate the camera
recognition in the app in a timely manner once you are no longer using the
vehicle. Otherwise, subsequent parking transactions by the next user could be
incorrectly charged to your account.
What is Express Parking without registration?
With Express Parking, you can park immediately in the app without having to
create a fixed Parkster account. You pay for your parking session directly
through your choice of payment method.
* Service fee: A service fee of 0.50 EUR per parking session is charged for
Express Parking.
* Payment methods: In Germany and Austria, you can use debit/credit cards,
PayPal, Apple Pay, and Google Pay.
* Automatic camera parking: This unfortunately does not work with Express
Parking. You will need a registered Parkster Account for that. We are already
working on a solution!
How to get started with Express Parking
* Download the "Parkster-App", select your country, and tap "Get started!".
* Press "More" in the bottom right, select "Choose payment method", enter your
details, and confirm.
* Enter your license plate under "Vehicles", and select "Add new vehicle".
* Select your parking zone on the map, set the parking time, and tap
"Continue".
How to switch from Express Parking to a registered Parkster account?
* Tap "More" in the bottom right and select "My Pages".
* Below the "Payment Method" button, you will find the link to register or log
in.
* Simply follow the instructions on the screen.
How to switch from a registered Parkster account back to Express Parking?
* Log out of your account under "More" and tap "Log out".
* When you start the app again, select your country and tap "Get started!".
* Re-enter your direct payment method and license plate (as described in the
instructions above).
Why was more money reserved than necessary?
Before starting the parking session, you set your expected parking time. This
amount is blocked (reserved) on your payment platform. Once you end the parking
session, we only charge for the actual parked time and deduct the exact amount.
The remaining reservation is released immediately. Depending on the payment
provider (PayPal, credit card, Google/Apple Pay), it may take up to 5 business
days for your bank to show the reservation again. Unfortunately, "Parkster" has
no influence over this.
Why was my parking session ended?
Short-Term Parking
Your pre-selected parking time came to an end, so the system automatically
stopped the session.
If you ever need more time, you can easily extend your active session under
"Tickets" before it expires (or stop it early if you leave sooner).
Long-Term Parking
Your Ticket (e.g., a daily or monthly Ticket) had a fixed validity. Once this
booked time has expired, the Ticket automatically ends.
Unfortunately, early stopping or extending is not possible with these Tickets.
